Quarter Horses With No Name

Just outside Montague, PEI in Valleyfield I spied a these horses close to the road. The paddock was just starting to green up in the early spring sunshine and the horses were searching for the fresh green sprouts.

The two mares were heavy with foal and initially, wide-eyed and curious. But they were quick to retreat up the hill and behind the bungalow. As I watched them go I was pumped to see three palominos in the back end of the L-shaped pasture.

So I back gingerly up the neighbour’s lane – dappled with mud puddles and soft squishy shoulders it was tricky and I parked right in the lane. Manners would have me off to the side but I knew that would lead to muddy hell and deep trenches; I figured as it was middle-of-the-day most ppl would be working and I’d just have to watch my back. Besides, palominos!

IMG_9830I returned to get pictures of the foals later that summer and the owner was at home to answer my questions.

These were all quarter horses acquired from a large breeding herd in New Brunswick. And none of them were named, they were numbered.

The palomino foals…were just that, two palomino foals. Sweet as could be.IMG_20170727_175145017_HDR
