This first video is pretty laid back, a foal swishing flies and investigating the green shoots all the mares are eating.

This mare has a wonderful hello – first the eyes blink and then…

Here is the bright spark that’s Bellevue, below…

Sometimes things aren’t nice between mares and someone else’s colt…

An everyday morning with the mares and foals…

The Herd

There’s a quiet pasture, bordering the TC highway running through Eldon. It’s a steepish hill falling away to grass covered meadow edged by the new green of potatoe fields.

Three horses had whiled the days away in a pastoral peace; a chubby brown on white paint, a a quiet little bay mare and a chestnut with a wide white blaze.

So this one day after the racing season had ended at the local raceway, they added 9 standardbred as a trial. BOOM!

I was interested in the original three – how they were adapting in the general melee…

I was so busy trying to get my tripod set up in a good spot so I tripped over hummocks of long dead grass and potholes in the farm yard, trying to get a clear sight line and a good camera focus, all the while keeping an eye on the restless herd. I thought of all of the horse lovers, stuck in a high rise apartment as I once was, dreaming of the long sleek lines of a horse, the shades of brown in a bay, the flip of a black tail in moody anger or boundless joy and wanting to hear the sound of a neigh or a squeal or the pounding of hoofbeats.

Here are some of the sights and sounds of horse.
