May 1, 2015, after our Winter of Snow!
The pasture was drapped in shadow by the copse of trees in the center. The good grazing surrounded the maples and birches, the wild cherry and crab apple trees and the three sturdy bay mares, spindly foals at their sides, seemed focused on the new green shoots of grass. Until they spied me.
I was the unknown, so I toned my voice low and reassuring. One of the mares pulled a final bunch of grass and then regarded me, calm and considering. She slowly paced towards me, colt following at her side.

When I went to town (Charlottetown) and found a barn nearby, the mares were cautious of the camera and the noises it made but my long lens let me get close.

after the mare rolled, she felt good!
